  1. Wish you had been to see the castle at Zleby–particularly the kitchen. While the rest of the castle was decidedly single-purpose rooms, the kitchen had at least 5 dedicated rooms but was also largely open. Two spaces were created by an L going around the baking and meat-smoking rooms (separated for energy reasons). There was also a butchering room, and several pantries around the edges for various storage items. And the pre-kitchen had a special name that was something like the “show kitchen”, but was essentially where the dishes were kept and carried up to the dining room above. That was fancy; the work kitchen was functional. It has always been with us….
